We’ve found loneliness is a common response to the question ‘what hurts you the most?’ People wrote things like ‘loneliness since my husband died’ and ‘isolation in the countryside’. This issue is coming up more and more since Who Cares? began, which tracks with other research about the growing problem of social isolation.
Here are some other key statistics:
Loneliness becomes a more common response the older people get.
It’s the seventh most common response out of the eight main categories we have found.
It’s more common among women than among men.
It’s the lowest ranked issue among the 18-34 age bracket.
